Dates: 18-24 January 2027
Location: Staveley Camp, Mid Canterbury

The area has an excellent array of alpine, wetland, tussockland and interesting forest
ecosystems to explore. We’ll be spoiled for choice! We’ll be right up against the Hakatere
Conservation Park which leaves no shortage of great flora and variety to explore.
Possible field trip areas/tracks: Mt Somers tracks, Lake Heron, Cameron River Fan, Lake
Clearwater, Potts River, Mt Sunday, Mt Barossa, Mt Alford tracks, Manuka Hut Track, and the
list goes on! We’ll likely meet up with folks from Canterbury Botanical Society and other friends
local to Canterbury.

Base camp: Staveley Camp
Food: Breakfasts & lunches will be prepared by BotSoccers on a roster system. Dinners and desserts will be catered. Vegetarians, dairy-free and vegan catered for – if you have other special dietary needs,
please make your own arrangements.
Accommodation: bunk-rooms: $25/person/night; camping is available
Transport: Participants to arrange their own transport to and from camp.
Transport may be available from bus stop / train station / nearest airport (Christchurch)

Booking: Booking is ESSENTIAL. Book early! Preference will be given to current members of
Wellington BotSoc. Please complete the registration form by 25th November.

Deposit: $490.00 per person to be paid at time of registration by internet banking. At
the end of the trip, depending on the final cost, you will be sent an invoice (or a refund)
for the full cost less your original payment.

Student scholarship

• BotSoc supports three students to attend the Summer Camp.
• BotSoc will cover the deposit for the camp of $490 for three students to attend the 2027 summer camp. If there is an additional payment needed at the end of the camp (generally no more than $40), the student will need to cover it.
• The first students to apply will be offered the places.
• The recipients must cover their own costs (such as travel to, from and during the camp, and snacks), and make their own arrangement of getting to and from Camp.
• The recipients must be (or have been) enrolled at VUW, Massey University, Weltec, or be apprentices in 2026 or 2027.
• The recipients must be members of the Wellington Botanic Society.
• The recipients must be at least 18 years old to attend.
