Awards and Grants

The Wellington Botanical Society offers a range of awards, scholarships and grants to encourage research in New Zealand’s native flora.

Jubilee Award

An award of up to $2,600 to increase knowledge of the New Zealand’s indigenous flora. Established to commemorate the 50th Jubilee of the Society in 1989, this award is open to anyone working in New Zealand. Learn more.

Tom Moss Student Award in Bryology

An award of up to $500 to enhance the understanding and awareness of New Zealand bryology and to celebrate the memory of Tom Moss. Open to students enrolled in a BSc, MSc, PhD, or equivalent degree in the twelve months immediately prior to the John Child Bryophyte Workshop. Learn more.

Student Field Grant

This grant is for students enrolled in post-graduate tertiary education, particularly those at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. It supports projects such as those undertaken in the course of Masters or Doctoral degrees that contribute to our understanding of botany. Three grants of $1200 each are made each year. Projects on fungi or algae are also eligible. Learn more.

Conference & Workshop Attendance Grant

A grant encouraging students to participate in ecological and botanical conferences and workshops. This initiative is designed to enrich and supplement students’ studies and professional development in the fields of botany and ecology. Learn more.
