SUMMARY:Talk: A mycology of New Zealand in 10 fungi
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Geoff Ridley. \nFungi are often overlooked. Most people only become aware of them when there is a problem\, the bathroom ceiling goes mouldy\, the roses need spraying because of the black spot\, mushrooms sprout all over the lawn. The bigger role that fungi play in our lives is missed. This is the story of ten little-known fungi that are important biologically\, culturally\, historically\, and economically in Aotearoa. Geoff Ridley is a mycologist who studied the larger fungi in the Ōrongorongo Valley for his PhD at Victoria University of Wellington\, and as a forest mycologist and pathologist at the Forest Research Institute in Rotorua. He currently works in the nationally significant collections of fungi held by Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research. His personal interest is in discovering the fungi of the Kaiwharawhara Valley in Wellington. He is a trustee on the Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush Trust. \nMeeting is in-person and via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89547154619?pwd=bE0zRXRWSXBBUkVoUjdPcElJNXlJUT09
